If anyone knows where she came from, no one is talking. If anyone knows her story, no one is talking. She was believed to be about 18 months to two years old, but no one knows for sure. She came to authorities attention in 1979 when a police officer noticed smoke out in a field. When he went to check what was burning, he found her.

Tests showed she had a fractured skull, after her death it is believed that she was taken to the field and her remains were set on fire. No one reported a missing little girl. No relative, friend or neighbor stepped forward to give her a name or to ask where she was. No one stepped forward to say they knew what happened to her. Without a name to call her, a dispatcher named her "Angel." Two months after her death, she was buried under a simple plaque that simply says "Angel." Her death was labeled a homicide. For 29 years she has lain nameless, her story never told, her killers never brought to justice.

Now authorities have exhumed her, hoping to recover some DNA from her remains. The DNA will be entered into a database and compared to DNA of persons who have been convicted of a crime. Because there have been no reports of an 18 month old to 2 year old little girl who disappeared from a neighborhood, authorities are now wondering if perhaps she might be older or younger than first thought. So besides the DNA recovery, they have also brought in an anthropologist to help determine her age more accurately.

No one is born in a vacuum, no one lives in a vacuum. This child lived for almost 2 years, then she disappeared. And no one reported it. Police believe her family may know what happened to her. And they theorize that only one thing would prevent them from claiming her, and giving her a name. Police are also asking that if anyone remembers a child disappearing from their neighborhood in 1979, that they make contact with police.
