Recently I published a story, using the facts provided in the legal document that is the police incident report, about a man charged with attempting to arrange sex with an underage girl through an Internet chat room. The "girl" was really a police detective and the man was arrested as soon as he arrived at the pre-arranged meeting place. It was rather a restrained version of the story; I left out whole pages of totally obscene dialogue that occurred in the chatroom between the man and the supposed girl.
Now comes the weirdness. The website has been receiving multiple comments -- as yet unpublished -- from (I think) the wife or ex-wife of the defendant in the case. Since they are not accompanied by a valid email address, they have not been published. Another reason they have not been published is that the seven or eight comments make extensive use of quotations from the King James Bible and seem to be somewhat threatening. It appears that this person regularly types the man's name into Google, sees the story still exists, and is inspired to write multiple comments of this nature. Has anyone experienced this type of response to a crime story? Frankly, if the messages are from the wife (who actually posted bail for this man, according to the police chief), it seems she is upset with the wrong party entirely.
