Another Pre-Opening Terrorist Robbery...11-7-09

Greenburgh police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Chase Bank in Scarsdale this morning.

Police said a man confronted two employees with a handgun as they opened the bank at 860 South Central Ave., at approximately 8:44 a.m.
The suspect, police said, forced the workers inside and demanded they open the vault. The bank employees complied and the man fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.
The employees were not injured and no shots were fired, police said.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 30 years old, 5-foot-5-inches tall, with a scruffy beard and wearing black pants and a brown, hooded sweatshirt.
Greenburgh detectives, investigating with members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are asking anyone with information to call 914-682-5331. All calls will be kept confidential.

Last of Raleigh Hills bank robbers sentenced to prison
Judge said victims ‘went through hell’
The Beaverton Valley Times, Nov 7, 2009

The last of three Los Angeles men has been sentenced in the 2007 violent armed robbery of a Raleigh Hills U S Bank branch.
U.S. District Court Judge James Redden sentenced Trayvon Mike Betterson, 24, of Los Angeles on Nov. 3 to nearly nine years in federal prison for his role in the armed robbery at 8205 S.W. Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
During the investigation, police said they uncovered Crip gang ties to each of the three co-defendants: Betterson, Jonathan Longmire and Christopher Augustus Swanson.
Prosecutors said Betterson and Longmire entered the bank just after it opened on Sept. 5, 2007. The two forced several employees and customers to the ground and bound one with a plastic zip tie before asking an employee to open the vault, who refused claiming there was no money in the vault.
Longmire threatened the bank employees at gunpoint until Betterson forced a teller to open the cash drawers and took about $2,256, prosecutors said.
The get-away driver, Swanson, then entered the bank to see what was taking so long. When he saw himself on the surveillance monitors, prosecutors said he tried in vain to find and destroy the videotape.
The three escaped, but police officers quickly caught up to their vehicle. After a short car chase, the three attempted to run on foot, but were eventually captured.
On April 28, 30-year-old Swanson was sentenced to 100 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. On Oct. 27, Longmire, age 26, was sentenced to 110 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. On Nov. 3, Betterson, age 24, was sentenced to 105 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
In sentencing Betterson, Redden noted that the “bank robbery was the worst ever described in this court” and that “the people in the bank went through hell.”

Employee shot during bank robbery
A bank employee was shot during a robbery Friday at the Guaranty Bank in the 5200 block of Arlington Avenue in Riverside.
About 2:30 p.m., two men armed with a handgun demanded money, police said in a news release. They shot an employee and then left the bank with an unannounced amount of cash. They left in a vehicle driven by a third person. The employee suffered what was described as a nonlife-threatening leg wound.
The same bank was robbed Jan. 30. No one was hurt in that robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to call Riverside police Detective Jim Brandt at 951-353-7137 or Detective Mike Medici at 951-353-7104.
